INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AND ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT: PARTICIPATION OF A STUDENT OF THE “ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND TRANSLATION” EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME IN THE UJK PROJECT
A second-year student (IФ-241) of the Educational Programme “English Language and Translation” Sofia Sadova is taking part in the large international project — the 33rd International Integration Meeting “HOMO NEOPHILUS vs. HOMO NEOPHOBUS: Human in Time.” The project lasts from March 26 to June 25, 2026, and brings together members of the academic community from Kielce, Warsaw, Chernihiv, Ternopil, and other university centres.
As part of the international meeting, Sofia presents the results of her research entitled “Loneliness as a Key Motif in Mary Shelley’s Novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus.” Her work demonstrates the high level of professional training of future philologists, their ability to work with English-language original sources, carry out deep literary analysis, and interpret classical works in the context of modern humanitarian challenges.
The main platform for the project is Szkoła Otwartego Umysłu (“School of the Open Mind”) — an international intellectual platform that brings together young researchers in the fields of literary studies, linguistics, and culture.
The initiative was founded at Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce (UJK) with the aim of creating a kind of “university without walls,” where students, PhD candidates, and young scholars can take part in open intercultural and interdisciplinary dialogue. Today, Szkoła Otwartego Umysłu operates at the Instytut Literaturoznawstwa i Językoznawstwa UJK and is an important international partner for students of the Educational Programme “English Language and Translation.”
It gives future translators the opportunity to:
• practise language communication in an academic environment;
• participate in interdisciplinary discussions;
• develop critical thinking skills necessary for a professional philologist.
The project is organised through the joint efforts of:
• Stowarzyszenie Współpracy “Polska – Wschód”;
• Centrum Nauki i Kultury UJK;
• Instytut Literaturoznawstwa i Językoznawstwa UJK.
Participation in such events is an important part of the development strategy of the Educational Programme “English Language and Translation,” which aims to prepare specialists who can confidently work in the international academic and cultural space.
