ALL-UKRAINIAN SCIENTIFIC AND PRACTICAL CONFERENCE:COMMUNICATION IN HUMANITARIAN DISCOURSE: CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS

On May 14, 2026, the Department of Foreign Philology, jointly with the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences, with the support of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University, Yurii Kondratiuk Poltava Polytechnic National University, South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University named after K. D. Ushynsky, Cherkasy State Technological University, Sumy National Agrarian University, and Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS), organized and held the All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conference “Communication in Humanitarian Discourse: Challenges and Prospects.”

The Department of Foreign Philology would like to express special gratitude to Adam Głaz, Associate Professor of the Department of English Language and Linguistics at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, for participating in the conference, delivering a presentation on communicative security challenges, and demonstrating sincere interest in the development of the young academic community. We are truly grateful for the attention paid to our students and for the valuable recommendations that will serve as important guidance in their future research activities.

During the conference, the Department of Foreign Philology conducted two sectional meetings in which students and scholars presented the results of their research on current issues in linguistics, translation studies, and intercultural communication.

At Section 1, “Language as a means of communication: contemporary challenges and prospects,” participants presented a number of substantial studies devoted to linguistic and pragmatic aspects of humanitarian discourse. In particular, the presentations addressed the semantic taxonomization of emoticons within NLP analysis systems, a contrastive analysis of traditional and modern English nursery rhymes, and linguocultural features of British and American humor. Special attention was also given to speech disorders in trauma discourse and to the language used to represent gender stereotypes in advertising.

Among the most notable presentations were studies devoted to the description of Russian drone attacks in British media, the representation of Ukrainian women in English-language wartime discourse, and sentiment analysis of media texts as a tool of influence. The participants demonstrated a high level of theoretical preparation and the ability to analyze complex linguistic phenomena in contemporary political and documentary discourse.

At Section 3, “Intercultural communication in a globalized world,” presentations focused on the peculiarities of linguistic interaction in the context of globalization and digital transformation. The topics covered included the evolution of the English language as “Digital Globish” in social media, manipulative techniques in tourism advertising, and the role of allusions in the media space. The participants also examined linguocultural aspects of literary translation, particularly the rendering of non-equivalent vocabulary and historicisms.

Considerable interest was generated by presentations devoted to intercultural communication as a factor of professional competence, linguistic means of expressing approval and disagreement in political discourse, and the evolution of greeting and farewell etiquette. Special attention was given to terminological transformations and the role of language as a tool for counteracting disinformation in the media sphere.

The participants of the sections — students and academic staff of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University, Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, Penitentiary Academy of Ukraine, and Maria Curie-Skłodowska University — demonstrated a profound interest in research activity and the ability to conduct professional scientific analysis.

Overall, both sectional meetings were held at a high academic level, demonstrating the participants’ strong academic motivation and openness to interdisciplinary dialogue in the context of contemporary humanitarian challenges.
