Regular meeting of the commission on academic integrity

On April 18, 2023, another meeting of the academic integrity commission of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University was held.

The main issue was the discussion of the risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence technologies (on the example of ChatGPT) in the educational process and scientific research.

Volodymyr Bazilevich, head of the Department of Information and Computer Systems of Chernihiv Polytechnic University, made a presentation of the main capabilities and features of the most widespread artificial intelligence technologies, in particular ChatGPT.

In the course of the report, examples of high-quality and incorrect processing of ChatGPT information requests were given, technological solutions that allow identifying text created by artificial intelligence, etc. were analyzed.

According to the results of the lively discussion, positive aspects of the use of artificial intelligence technologies in the educational process and scientific activity were noted, due to the reduction of time to search for various information sources on a certain issue, assistance to the student during independent work, explanation of unclear moments in various ways, which allows taking into account the individual characteristics of the applicants , etc.

At the same time, the negative aspects of the use of artificial intelligence technologies in the educational process and scientific activity, related to the risks of its unscrupulous use, both in the performance of individual tasks by applicants and in the conduct of control measures, are indicated, which is especially relevant in distance learning. It is recommended that the NPP, when planning the current and final control, use such forms and methods that would minimize the risks of their unscrupulous passage by acquirers using artificial intelligence technologies.

Discussions on a large number of aspects of the use of artificial intelligence technologies have remained open.

So the Commission on Academic Integrity invites the public to join the discussion on this topic, take a short anonymous survey and submit their suggestions: https://forms.gle/zbL5gdiXEZzC4ZaH8
