Green construction for the revitalisation of the Chernihiv region: Chernihiv Polytechnic National University is developing cooperation with French partners

From 4 to 15 May 2026, as part of a collaboration with the Le Gabion training centre (France) and Chernihiv Polytechnic National University’s Science Week, the Department of Welding and Construction Technologies hosted an international workshop entitled “Green Construction”.

Six trainers from various parts of France, led by the centre’s founder Richard Lacortiglia, spent two weeks at the university delivering practical training for students from Chernihiv Polytechnic National University and the Chernihiv Vocational Construction Lyceum.

At the event’s opening ceremony, welcoming speeches were delivered by Volodymyr Kalchenko, Vice-Rector for Academic and Pedagogical Affairs; Nina Lemesh, First Deputy Chair of the Chernihiv Regional Council; Iryna Prybytko, Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Engineering, Production and Construction; and Henri David, President of the ARASFEC charitable association Honorary Citizen of Chernihiv Region, Henri David.

The event comprised a theoretical component, during which participants had the opportunity to learn about European approaches to eco-friendly and energy-efficient construction practices using timber and straw, bioclimatic design and thermal comfort in buildings, and the use of natural and recycled materials, as well as a practical session aimed at developing skills in constructing eco-friendly, energy-efficient buildings using straw bale technology. The project resulted in the construction of a 16 m² house, 3 metres high.

Oleh Novomlynets, Rector of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, thanked the delegation for their visit and support and expressed his hope for further close cooperation.

The staff of the Department of Welding and Construction Technologies at Chernihiv Polytechnic National University would like to express their sincere gratitude to the team of trainers for sharing their expertise, and special thanks to Richard Lacortille for organising and implementing the project.

The administration of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University expresses its deep gratitude to Nina Lemesh, First Deputy Chair of the Chernihiv Regional Council, for her comprehensive support of the university’s international development and for promoting reconstruction initiatives in the region.
