Chernihiv Polytechnic National University has become a partner of the non-governmental organisation “Legal Hundred”

As part of the project “Strengthening the protection of the rights of veterans and their families in Ukraine through legal instruments, public awareness campaigns, specialised training and analytical work” under the “Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Ukrainian Veterans” Programme Chernihiv Polytechnic National University and the public organisation “All-Ukrainian Human Rights Organisation “Legal Hundred” have become partners.

The cooperation between the University and the public organisation is aimed at developing amendments to training programmes for prospective advocates of veterans’ rights. The aim of the changes is to improve existing or develop new training modules/courses that would address current issues relating to the protection of the rights of veterans and their family members, and to strengthen the practical component of training, particularly in military law, veterans’ rights, the rights of prisoners of war and persons missing in action, and/or the legal aspects of medical care for veterans.

The first steps within the framework of the cooperation were:

  • – appointing a coordinator from Chernihiv Polytechnic National University to oversee the project, a role taken on by Valentyna Lytvynenko, Head of the Department of Public and Private Law, PhD in Law, Associate Professor, and Head of the “Adiutorium” Legal Clinic;
  • – signing a Memorandum of Cooperation and Partnership;
  • – holding a strategic meeting, during which an audit of existing study programmes was conducted, needs were mapped, specific proposals for changes were formulated, a request was made to the civil society organisation, and a roadmap for change was drawn up.

Ahead lies fruitful work on improving the training programmes, taking into account the agreements reached.

The project is being implemented through the Veterans Rehabilitation and Reintegration Programme, which is delivered by IREX with the support of the US Department of State. The content is the sole responsibility of IREX and the civil society organisation “All-Ukrainian Human Rights Organisation “Legal Hundred”” and does not necessarily reflect the views of the US Department of State.
