Strategic session as part of the Chernihiv4Climate project

On 15 April 2026, a strategic session entitled “Laying the Foundations for a Climate Resilience Strategy” took place in Chernihiv, organised as part of the Chernihiv4Climate project “Chernihiv for Climate Action and Sustainable Transformation”. The event took place in the conference hall of the Chernihiv Regional Development Agency and brought together representatives from civil society, government, academia, the expert community and other stakeholders to work together on developing a strategic vision for the region’s climate-resilient development.

The aim of the session was to establish a shared, evidence-based understanding of the climate and socio-economic challenges facing Chernihiv Oblast, to agree on a long-term vision for climate-resilient development, and to define the logic of change for the development of a Climate Resilience Strategy, Action Plan and Investment Plan. Throughout the day, participants worked on assessing climate risks and vulnerabilities, discussed natural capital and ecosystem services, formulated a vision for climate resilience, and considered issues of inclusive governance, stakeholder engagement and institutional readiness for implementing change.

Representatives of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University (A. Prystupa, Zh. Derii, O. Minina, N. Shadura-Nykiporets and others) actively participated in the event, demonstrating a high level of expertise and interest in shaping strategic approaches to the region’s sustainable development. During the strategic session, the Chernihiv4Climate project was presented, and participants took part in thematic sessions aimed at developing practical solutions and defining further steps within the project’s implementation:

  1. Natural capital and ecosystem services: pressures, risks and dynamics of change
  2. Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment (CRVA): systemic risks, exposure and impacts
  3. Climate resilience vision 2040 and theory of change: defining adaptation pathways
  4. Inclusive governance and equitable resilience: stakeholder mapping and integration of equity principles
  5. Institutional maturity and enabling conditions: readiness assessment and next steps
