Chernihiv Polytechnic National University has joined the Climate Adaptation Marathon: from educational events to practical environmental initiatives
Chernihiv Polytechnic National University joined the Climate Adaptation Marathon, which took place from 4 to 17 May 2026 and was aimed at raising awareness of the consequences of the climate crisis, fostering environmental responsibility and promoting approaches to adapting to climate change. For its active participation and organisation of themed events, the university received a Certificate of Participation in the Marathon.
In particular, as part of the Marathon, a webinar entitled “The University Start-up Ecosystem as a Driver of Climate Adaptation, Green Recovery and Sustainable Development in Ukraine” was held at Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, organised and conducted as part of the ERASMUS+ KA2 SUSTED project “Education for Sustainable Development: Synergy of Competences for the Recovery of Ukraine” (organiser – Kateryna Hnedina, PhD in Economics, Associate Professor, Coordinator of Start-up Development, Innovation and Project-Based Learning). The event was dedicated to the role of university start-up ecosystems in shaping innovative solutions for climate adaptation, supporting the green transition, developing entrepreneurial initiatives and engaging young people in the implementation of sustainable development goals.
Practical environmental initiatives also formed an important part of the university’s participation. For instance, the “Peremoha” centre hosted the “Sowing Meadow”, “Urban Farm”, and “Urban Thickets” on greening areas and creating a green barrier for the space, aimed at improving the urban environment, fostering an environmental culture, and engaging young people in sustainable development practices (organised by Serhii Bezborodko, Director of the “Peremoha” Centre for Startup Creation and Development). Such initiatives not only contribute to the creation of a more comfortable and environmentally sustainable space, but also demonstrate the importance of local action in the process of climate adaptation.
Chernihiv Polytechnic National University’s participation in the Climate Adaptation Marathon once again confirms the university’s active role in the life of the city and the region. By combining education, science, innovation and practical community initiatives, the university serves as a key hub for shaping decisions on green recovery, sustainable development and enhancing the climate resilience of the Chernihiv region.
