Developing professional competencies and leadership potential: participation of lecturers from Chernihiv Polytechnic National University in the “Lead the Change” project

The training of competitive specialists at Chernihiv Polytechnic National University is based on a combination of thorough academic education, practice-oriented learning and the continuous professional development of academic and teaching staff. An important role in this process is played by the participation of university lecturers in national and international educational, scientific and industry initiatives aimed at implementing modern approaches to management, education and innovation.

Recently, Associate Professor of the Department of Automotive Transport and Industrial Engineering, Antonina KOLOHOIDA, PhD in Technical Sciences, took part in Ukraine’s first original training course, “Manage Change”, which aims to develop leadership skills among women in the transport sector and to build a community of specialists capable of initiating and implementing systemic changes in the industry.

The 2.5-month training programme brought together 25 participants from various fields of activity — higher education, business and public administration. The course covered issues of strategic thinking, change management, transport safety, sustainable development, as well as the implementation of European and international standards in transport policy and engineering education. This cross-sectoral format facilitated the exchange of experience, the formation of professional networks and the development of an expert community.

Following the training, Ms Antonina’s professional experience was selected as one of three case studies featured in a special report by the nationwide analytical online publication “Rubryka”.

The publication presents a vision of the role of specialists in the transformation of the transport sector, as well as outlining the prospects for the development of engineering and transport education in Ukraine. Participation in such a media project helps to promote the scientific and educational achievements of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University and raise the university’s profile at the national level.

The university’s participation in the “Drive Change” programme has a direct practical impact on the development of the educational process and the university’s strategic areas of activity, in particular:

  • Improvement of educational programmes. The tools developed and acquired during the training are planned to be integrated into the educational process for the Master’s degree programme in J8 “Road Transport”, for which Antonina KOLOHOIDA is the programme coordinator.
  • Implementation of international standards. The programme was implemented with the support of the International Transport Forum (OECD), enabling the application of global best practices in the fields of transport policy, management and education.
  • Expanding expert dialogue and partnerships. Participation in such initiatives opens up new opportunities for the university to collaborate with stakeholders, representatives of state institutions, business and professional communities at the national level.

Thus, the participation of academic and teaching staff at Chernihiv Polytechnic National University in projects aimed at developing leadership and change management is a key component in improving the quality of education, modernising educational programmes and strengthening the university’s position as a modern institution.
