DEMOCRACY STARTS WITH PARTICIPATION. AND PARTICIPATION – WITH EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US

On September 14-20, Civil Society Week continues in Ukraine, and on September 15, the world celebrated International Day of Democracy.

On this occasion, training sessions dedicated to democracy, its principles, and the role of civic participation were held at Chernihiv Polytechnic National University.

The events were joined by:

  • · 3rd-year students of the Educational and Research Institute of Business, Economics and Administration and the Educational and Research Institute of Environmental Management and Humanities — trainer Alla Nitchenko, Associate Professor at the Department of Law Enforcement;
  • · 3rd-year students of the Faculty of Social Work of the Educational and Research Institute of Law and Social Technologies — trainer Olena Kozynets, Head of the Department of Law Enforcement and General Legal Disciplines.

During the interactive exercise “Principles of Democracy,” students analyzed core democratic values, discussed their significance, expressed their views, and learned to interact and make decisions together.

The ability to engage in dialogue, express and substantiate one’s position, respect the opinions of others, and take part in joint decision-making are key components of active citizenship. After all, a civil society is formed where people do not stand aside, but are ready to participate, interact, take responsibility, and co-create change.

This is precisely what Civil Society Week reminds us of: democracy and a strong civil society start with the active participation of each and every one of us.
