“Sustainable Chernihiv Region: Recovery through Partnership”
On 9 December, Chernihiv hosted the conference “Sustainable Chernihiv Region: Recovery through Partnership”, which brought together over 80 representatives of communities, government, business, education, the public sector and international organisations. The event was held as part of a partnership between Chernihiv Polytechnic National University and the “Dobrochin Centre” public organisation, with the support of the Ichnia City Council, the Chernihiv Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Chernihiv City Council.
Participants emphasised that the resilience of Chernihiv region has a human dimension: security, trust, solidarity and the involvement of residents are the basis for successful recover institutions and international organisations were identified as the main resource for long-term development.
Three panel discussions focused on people-centred reconstruction, economic sustainability, and the interaction between education and business. The panel “Education and Business – Synergy for Recovery and Development” was an important part of the conference and was structured around individual questions to the speakers and joint discussion. Key challenges facing education and business today were discussed, and realistic areas of cooperation were identified to strengthen the human capital of Chernihiv region.
The participants in the discussion were the heads of leading educational institutions in Chernihiv region and representatives of business:
- · Oleh NOVOMLYNETS, Rector of the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, spoke about how the university combines the challenges of wartime with strategic development and builds long-term partnerships with business for the restoration of the region.
- · Oleksandr SAMOILENKO, Rector of Nizhyn Mykola Gogol State University, shared his vision of how the higher education system affects the country’s competitiveness and what steps are key to strengthening it.
- · Viktoriia MALOFEIENKO, Acting Director of the State vocational technical educational establishment “Chernihiv higher vocational school of consumer services”, emphasised the adaptation of vocational education to the needs of the regional labour market and effective formats for cooperation with business.
- · Maksym POLIANSKYI, Executive Director of “PET TECHNOLOGIES” LLC, outlined business expectations from the education system and stressed the importance of practical training.
- · Valentin ANDRIIETS, Head of “LAKS” LLC and Chairman of the Council of Entrepreneurs of Nizhyn, highlighted the skills shortage in the labour market and drew attention to current formats of business participation in community life in general and education in particular.
- · Volodymyr KUPRIIETS, Director of “Ahrobud” and Executive Director of “Goldpack” LLC, emphasised the key competencies that education must develop now in order for young people to be competitive in the coming years.
The panel was moderated by Nataliia Shakun, Associate Professor at Chernihiv Polytechnic National University.
In the general discussion, participants discussed what steps education and business can take now to prepare young people for the professions of the future. The emphasis was on the need for ongoing dialogue, the creation of joint programmes, the development of dual education and increased investment in human capital.
Scientific and pedagogical staff of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University – Associate Professor Yuliia Peretiatko and Associate Professor Mykhailo Selinnyi – joined the work of the “Solutions Laboratory”. Together, the participants developed practical proposals for formats of partnership with business and the development of human capital in the region
The conference confirmed that the recovery of Chernihiv region is possible thanks to the cooperation of all sectors and shared responsibility for the future of the region.
The event was organised by the NGO “Dobrochin Centre” as part of the project “Sustainable Chernihiv Region: Recovery through Partnership”, which is part of the Impulse project.
