Specialists of the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University are working on 3D scanning of a historical building (regimental office or Mazepa’s house).
This initiative is aimed at preserving the architectural heritage of the city and creating digital copies of the monuments for future generations. The creation of 3D models allows not only to preserve detailed information about architectural objects, but also to use this data for restoration work.
The 3D scanning stage is aimed at preparing for the restoration, as the building was damaged due to wetting, which led to its damage. Mykola Korzachenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Welding and Construction Technologies, notes that 3D scanning will allow us to accurately assess the condition of the building and the extent of the damage.
An engineer at the same department, Ihor Petrenko, said that an optical scanner is used to perform 3D scanning, and the process is carried out manually, which ensures maximum accuracy. This work can take about a month to complete.
Such digital archives are an important resource for researchers, architects and historians, and also help to promote cultural heritage to a wider audience.
