Hackathon “Sustainable Solutions for Ukraine” within the ERASMUS+ KA2 SUSTED project

On 19 February 2026, the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University hosted an innovative hackathon “Sustainable Solutions for Ukraine”. The main goal of the hackathon was to strengthen the integration of sustainable development values in the educational and public sectors. The event was held as part of the international ERASMUS KA2 SUSTED project “Education for Sustainable Development: Synergy of Competences for the Recovery of Ukraine” and brought together higher education students, scientific and pedagogical staff of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, as well as representatives of public organisations (NGO “Eco City”, “YODA”).

The hackathon format involved dynamic, practice-oriented work by participants in microgroups. The teams worked on solutions related to the sustainable recovery of the country and the implementation of sustainable development principles. In particular, they analysed problematic situations and identified their root causes; formulated strategic actions to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); generated ideas for innovative projects; developed prototypes of solutions and models for their practical implementation; presented the results of their work and received feedback.

The involvement of representatives from the education sector and civil society organisations ensured a diversity of expert views and practical experience. This enabled participants not only to identify key areas for sustainable recovery, but also to develop concepts for innovative initiatives that have the potential to be implemented at the level of Chernihiv, the region and the state as a whole.

The event was held as part of the ERASMUS+ SUSTED project “Education for Sustainable Development: Synergy of Competences for the Recovery of Ukraine” (project number: 101178414). The project is co-funded by the European Union, but the views and opinions expressed are those of the authors of this project and do not necessarily reflect the views of the European Union or the European Education and Culture Executive Agency.
