Guest Lecture on EU Competition Law Held

On March 26, 2026, a guest online lecture by a foreign expert on the topic of European Union Competition Law (EU Competition Law) was held for students and academic staff.

The lecture was delivered by Geoffroy van de Walle, a representative of the international law firm Jones Day, who familiarized participants with the key principles and current practices of applying EU competition law.

During the lecture, the essence of competition law as a mechanism for protecting the competitive process was explained, and the scope of entities subject to its application was defined. Special attention was paid to anti-competitive concerted practices under Article 101 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, as well as the abuse of a dominant position (Article 102 TFEU).

The lecturer highlighted the characteristics of cartels, their main features and modern forms, the issue of strategic information exchange between competitors as a type of “targeted” restriction of competition, and provided practical examples of law enforcement.

The presentation also examined the concept of a dominant position and its abuse, including practices such as tying and bundling, as well as the procedural aspects of applying EU competition law.

A separate section of the lecture was devoted to merger control under the EU Merger Regulation, with an emphasis on key approaches to assessing mergers and their impact on competition.

The event took place as part of the “Future of Europe Program – European Union Law Studies for Ukraine”.

We sincerely thank the lecturer for an informative and professional presentation!
