By signing theCharter,Chernihiv NationalUniversity ofTechnology reaffirmed itsaffiliation with the academiccommunity,which crossespoliticaland socialbarriersand formsvectorsofintegration into society,providing allcitizenswith thenecessary rightsand freedomsin culture,scienceand education.

TheGrand CharterofUniversitiesisadocumentdesigned to improvetheeducationalsystemsand developmentpoliciesoftheEuropean university community.Itdefinesthebasicprinciplesthatshould guide theuniversitiesto ensurethedevelopmentofeducation,innovation and closetiesbetween universities, emphasizesthebasicvalues,rightsand responsibilitiesoftheuniversity asakey institution ofsociety.

Itwillberecalled thattheGrand CharterofUniversitiesdeclaresfourspecificprinciplesofhighereducation. Thus,thefirstofthemisformulated asfollows:“TheUniversity isan autonomous,in itsown way organized institution in theheartofsociety,which produces,evaluates,multipliesand disseminatesculturethrough research and teaching.Thesecond principleproclaimstheunity ofeducationaland scientificactivitiesof universitiesand reflectstheessenceoftheresearch university:”Teaching and research in universitiesarean integralprocessthatmustnotlag behind theneedsand requirementsofsociety and ensuretheirsatisfaction with advanced scientificknowledge.” Nolessimportantand relevantisthethird principle-academic freedomsin highereducation:”Freedomin research and teaching isafundamentalprincipleofuniversity life.” Anduniversitiesmust,asfarasthey depend,ensurethatthisrequirementismet.Thefourth principle emphasizesthemission ofuniversitiesascustodiansoftraditionsand accumulated intellectualwealth that promotetheintegration ofdifferentcultures:”TheUniversity istheguarantoroftheEuropean humanistic tradition.”
