On April 7, 2023, a working meeting was held on the creation of a military department on the basis of the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University.

The event was attended by Volodymyr Koval, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Major General, Vyacheslav Chaus, head of the Chernihiv OVA, Dmytro Bryzhynskyi, head of the Chernihiv MBA, the university administration headed by the rector Oleg Novomlynets, representatives of military affairs and scientists.

Volodymyr Koval noted that the university has all the opportunities to train officers, as well as to realize the existing scientific and research potential, particularly in the field of defense.

Currently, the university is tasked with developing educational programs that will ensure high-quality training of specialists in the field of defense, whether in peacetime or wartime.
