Women’s capacity for social cohesion and recovery in the communities of Chernihiv region
On 14 January 2025, a round table was held at the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University to present the results of a sociological study on women’s capacity for social cohesion and recovery in the communities of Chernihiv region (Ripky, Chernihiv, Horodnia), which was conducted as part of the project “Women as Agents of Social Cohesion and Recovery in Communities”, implemented by the NGO “Centre for Gender Education”.
The event became a platform for discussing the role of women in restoring local communities and strengthening social cohesion in the face of modern challenges. Olha Melnyk, Vice-Rector for Scientific-Pedagogical Work and Social Development of the University, Head of the NGO “Centre for Gender Education”, welcomed the participants of the roundtable and stressed the relevance of the research.
The results were presented
- Nataliia Shakun, member of the NGO “Centre for Gender Education”, Head of the Centre for Sociological Research and Social Audit of the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University.
- Alla Nitchenko, member of the NGO “Centre for Gender Education”, head of the “Centre for Gender Education” at the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University.
The results of the study showed that women play a leading role in community development, strengthen social ties, initiate important changes in communities and are actively involved in recovery processes.
The participants – representatives of local authorities, NGOs, activists and women – shared valuable ideas and suggestions for further implementation of initiatives to strengthen social cohesion and enhance the role of women in society. Such discussions prove how important it is to empower women and create platforms for their active participation in the life of their communities

The event was held in a favourable atmosphere of mutual understanding, open dialogue and inspiration for further cooperation. This is just the beginning of a great deal of work to build sustainable and cohesive communities where every woman has the opportunity to become an agent of change!
