Training seminar ‘Conflict resolution and the art of dialogue’

On 14 May 2025, the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University hosted a training seminar ‘Conflict resolution and the art of dialogue’, organised by the NGO ‘Centre for gender education’ in cooperation with the NGO ‘Human rights foundation’ within the framework of the ‘Together We Can’ programme. The initiative is implemented with the support of the IFA (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen) and the German Federal Foreign Office.

The seminar brought together young people, civil society activists, representatives of student councils and youth organisations to develop skills in effective communication and peaceful conflict resolution, especially in the context of war and the post-war period.

Participants learned about the main causes of conflicts, their types, structure and functions in society. The training covered the stages of conflict, factors of its escalation and ways of de-escalation. During the seminar, the trainers introduced the participants to various response strategies: avoidance, adaptation, competition, compromise, and cooperation. Participants learned to identify negative communication patterns that can lead to conflict and mastered the principles of constructive communication.

The training helped participants practice their ability to listen, ask open questions, and express their opinions without aggression: they learned to speak with consideration for the emotional state of the interlocutor, including in situations related to trauma.

Through the interactive part, the participants learned to identify conflict situations and find peaceful solutions, and through the ‘Johari Window’ exercise, they were able to expand their understanding of themselves and their communication style.

Particular attention was paid to practical skills: they worked in small groups, participated in the role-playing game ‘Conflict Analysis’, considered real-life cases and received feedback from the trainers – psychologist Hanna Chepurna and Oksana Shuba, ambassador of the ‘Together We Can’ project.

The project is implemented in cooperation with the NGO ‘Human Rights Foundation’ and is funded by the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations (IFA) at the expense of the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Partners of the project in Chernihiv region are the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University and the NGO ‘Centre for gender education’.

We invite you to join our project team!

Let’s implement civic and social initiatives together!
