Parliamentary lesson of the Educational Centre of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine: an event on the occasion of the International Day of Education

On 24 January, the Educational Centre of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine hosted an educational event on the occasion of the International Education Day, which was attended by representatives of the National Technical University of Ukraine «Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute» and the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University.

The event was joined by students majoring in Philosophy, the educational programme “Analytics of socio-political processes” together with the Head of the Department Nataliia Shakun and the curator Iryna Kovalova.

During the lesson, students of two polytechnics learned about the peculiarities of the functioning of the Ukrainian Parliament, the work of people’s deputies and their law-making activities – and also were able to feel like people’s deputies, developing their own draft laws, presenting them to colleagues, and then taking part in a real vote!

The lesson was held in the format of an interactive presentation on the history and foundations of Ukrainian parliamentarism, the principles of work of the branches of power in Ukraine, in particular, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, its committees and people’s deputies, and ways of interacting with the Ukrainian parliament.

In the practical part of the course, students took part in a simulation game of a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Committee. The participants were divided into 4 factions to discuss one draft law from the perspective of different political positions. The result was a vote on the draft law.

The students had a great opportunity not only to try themselves as people’s deputies, but also to improve their public speaking, argumentation, communication and teamwork skills. Education unites, contributes to the sustainable development of the world and the formation of a successful society.

Congratulations to everyone on International Education Day!
