Internship at Mendel University (Brno, Czech Republic)

During October 16-20, 2023, the Mendel University (Brno, Czech Republic) hosted the internship “Interuniversity Scientific and Pedagogical Cooperation in Research and Teaching at the International Level”. Representatives of Chernihiv Polytechnic University took part in the training series

  •  Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and Social Development Olga Yevgenivna Melnyk;
  •  Doctor of Economics, Assoc., Prof. Department of Management and Administration, Head of the Council of Young Scientists Olha Volodymyrivna Popelo;
  •  Doctor of Technical Sciences, Prof., Prof. Department of Information Technologies and Software Engineering Maria Serhiyivna Dorosh;
  •  Doctor of Economics, prof., prof. Department of Finance, Banking and Insurance, head of the Center for Project Activities Nataliya Ivanivna Kholyavko;
  •  Doctor of Economics, Assoc., Assoc. Department of Architecture and Environmental Design Yuliya Volodymyrivna Shabardina.

The trainings were implemented within the framework of the project “Interuniversity scientific and pedagogical cooperation with an emphasis on the transfer of Czech know-how in the field of higher education management, cooperation in the field of professional publishing, scientific and academic cooperation” (“Interuniversity scientific and pedagogical cooperation with an emphasis on the transfer of Czech know-how in the field of higher education management, cooperation in the field of professional publishing, scientific and academic cooperation”). The main goal of the project is to contribute to the development of Ukrainian higher education by deepening the leadership qualities of students, retaining talented teachers in Ukrainian universities and implementing effective university management practices.

The first day of the internship program (October 16) began with the opening ceremony of the International Week at Mendel University, which was attended by representatives of various countries of the world. After the official opening of the event, Martina Rashtikova, dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics of the Mendel University, held a lecture during which she introduced the participants from Ukrainian higher education institutions to effective internationalization strategies.

The second day of the internship (October 17) began with a meeting with the Consul of Ukraine in the Czech Republic (Brno) Anna Proshko. During the second day, the main emphasis was placed on issues of international project activities of higher education institutions, in particular, much attention was paid to the analysis of Mendel University’s experience in the Erasmus+ KA2, COST, etc. programs.

The third day (October 18) was devoted to the study of the cultural heritage of the Czech Republic. The participants toured the key locations of the Mendel University campus, visited its botanical garden, and also visited Zámek Lednice, which is part of the cultural landscape of Lednice-Valtice, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The fourth day (October 19) turned out to be rich and productive. Scientists from Ukrainian institutions of higher education had the opportunity to attend two lectures by the coordinators of the project, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Director of the National Research Institute of Management, Food Technologies and Trade of the Chernihiv Polytechnic University Natalia Valeriivna Tkalenko, as well as PhD Ondrzej Pavelek (University of Mendel). Both lecturers focused on the problems of improving communications in the academic environment. A meeting with the dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University, PhD, Assoc. Kapunek the matchmaker. During this meeting, possible directions of Czech-Ukrainian scientific and educational cooperation were discussed. During the meeting with the PhD, CZEXPATS director of science, Matush Glants, a constructive discussion took place, devoted to the identification of potential means of support for Ukrainian researchers in the conditions of martial law.

During the fifth day of the internship (October 20), participants from Ukrainian institutions of higher education and lecturers and trainers from Mendel University systematized the acquired knowledge, experience, skills and summed up the results of the internship, which lasted during September-October in a hybrid format. The Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University presented Ukrainian scientists with certificates and commemorative gifts, emphasizing the importance of further supporting the spirit of partnership and cooperation.
