III Forum of Civic Education Teachers

On 23-24 June 2025, the III Forum of Civic Education Teachers was held, organised by the NGO ‘Association of Civic Education Teachers’ with the support of IFES Ukraine, in which the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University was represented by:

  • · Vice-Rector for Scientific-Pedagogical Work and Social Development, Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences Olha Melnyk
  • · Head of the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences, Associate Professor Nataliia Shakun
  • · Head of the Department of Law Enforcement and General Legal Disciplines, Associate Professor Olena Kozynets
  • · Associate Professor of the Department of Law Enforcement Alla Nitchenko.

This year, the event brought together more than 40 participants from different cities of Ukraine — Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Chernihiv, Sumy, Cherkasy, Odesa, and others. All of them teach the course ‘Democracy: From Theory to Practice’ at leading universities in the country and have undergone special training and workshops in previous years.

The theme of this year’s Forum was a trauma-sensitive approach to teaching. Participants discussed how to teach civic education taking into account the psychological state of students in conditions of social turbulence, war and stress. Particular attention was paid to practices for supporting students, veterans, developing empathy and creating a safe educational environment.

This event was organised by the NGO ‘Association of Civic Education Teachers’ with the support of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and UK International Development from the British Government.
