Guest Online Lecture by Foreign Experts on ESG
On September 10, 2026, higher education students and academic staff of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University attended a guest online lecture on ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance – environment, social sphere, governance), held within the framework of the Future of Europe Program – European Union Law Studies for Ukraine.
The lecturers of the event were Juergen Beninca (Frankfurt) and Françoise Labrousse (Paris) – representatives of the international law firm Jones Day.
During the lecture, the concept of ESG, the history of its origin, and the development of relevant regulations were examined. Special attention was paid to the legislation of the European Union in the field of sustainable development and its significance for Ukraine in the context of European integration.
Participants learned about the main directions of EU legislation in the ESG field, particularly regarding sustainability reporting, sustainable finance, supply chain due diligence, the carbon border adjustment mechanism, and the development of a circular economy. The prospects of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and the further development of ESG legislation in Ukraine were also discussed.
A separate section of the lecture was devoted to whether ESG is indeed an effective approach, as well as the practical significance of relevant legislation. In particular, it was emphasized that ESG regulation is designed to help investors identify long-term risks, promote ethical and sustainable business activities, ensure the integrity of the sustainable finance market, and support the transition to a circular economy.
Holding such lectures helps familiarize participants in the educational process with current trends in European law and its application practice, as well as deepen the understanding of the processes of adapting Ukrainian legislation to European Union law.
