From Theory to Professional Reality: the “ПереклаДійсність” Game for Philology Students
As part of completing the first-semester translation courses, third- and fourth-year philology students took part in the professionally oriented game “ПереклаДійсність”, which simulates real working conditions of a translator. The game served as the final stage of the course and allowed students to summarise the theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired during the semester.
The game scenarios reflected key challenges of the translation profession, including employment issues, building working relationships and cooperation, financial aspects of professional activity, work–life balance, as well as the visibility and professional recognition of translators.
The special value of the game lies in its practical focus. “ПереклаДійсність” was created by well-known Ukrainian translators and is aimed at preparing future professionals for the real conditions of the translation services market. The game format encouraged active student interaction, the development of critical thinking, and professional reflection.
An important motivational element was the opportunity for participants to receive additional points for relevant courses. These points functioned both as a game reward and as a form of academic encouragement for students’ activity and engagement.
The event was held with the participation of the teaching staff of the Department of Foreign Philology, including Associate Professors O. A. Rosstalna and L. V. Pikun, as well as the Head of the Department of Foreign Philology, Associate Professor S. V. Lytvyn. We would also like to express our sincere thanks to the #TranslatorsinAction community for providing the opportunity to use the game and for supporting educational initiatives aimed at the professional development of future translators.
