First Space Opened in Chernihiv Within “Construction of Interaction. Shelter+”

A new safe and multifunctional space has been opened in Chernihiv, created by the team of the “Ostriv” Platform in partnership with the NGO “Eco Misto” and Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, with the support of GIZ Ukraine.

The Chernihiv space became the first implementation of the project “Construction of Interaction. Shelter+” and is already the eighth space created based on the “Ostriv” Platform’s approach to equipping shelters and safe havens.

An important goal of the project was not only to create a safe space, but also to transfer practical experience to local partners and enhance the community’s capacity to implement similar initiatives. Local teams, volunteers, students, and craftsmen contributed to the setup process.

During the work, the team of the “Ostriv” Platform conducted a practical workshop on manufacturing furniture according to the open instructions of “Shelter+”, allowing participants to gain practical skills for future projects.

The new space will function not only as a shelter, but also as a venue for work, study, meetings, and activities of the local community.

Chernihiv Polytechnic extends its gratitude to the NGO “Eco Misto,” the “Ostriv” Platform, volunteers, students, craftsmen, and all partners involved in creating the space.

The project is implemented by the “Ostriv” Platform and is part of the German transitional aid commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) and executed by GIZ Ukraine within the project “Strengthening Urban Resilience in the Area of Life Support of Urban Territorial Communities in Ukraine” (SUR), with the support of “Tolocar – Mobile Makerspaces.”
