First meeting of Ukrainian regions participating in the Pathways2Resilience (P2R) project

On 10 March 2026, an online meeting was held between Ukrainian organisations that had been selected through a competitive process as part of the P2R Pathways2Resilience project (https://www.pathways2resilience.eu/).The event brought together representatives of regional consortia that have received funding to implement initiatives aimed at enhancing the climate resilience of Ukrainian regions (Chernihiv, Lviv, Volyn and Odesa regions).

During the meeting, participants discussed the composition of the regional consortia, their objectives and approaches to organising cooperation, as well as the specifics of coordination between local authorities, civil society organisations, the expert community and international partners. Particular attention was paid to developing effective models of interaction for implementing climate solutions at the regional level.

The discussion also featured innovative approaches already being implemented in various regions of Ukraine. In particular, an initiative is underway in Volyn to create an eco-park and a nature reserve for wetlands, aimed at preserving natural ecosystems and biodiversity. Participants shared best practices on developing energy-efficient regions, such as the experience of Lviv, where the “Rozsadnyk” space is being developed – a centre for eco-education, urban gardening and nature therapy, established by the civil society organisations Plato and Ecoterra in 2021. In addition, Lviv is implementing standards for the greening of car parks as a tool for adapting the urban environment to climate change.

The project implemented in Chernihiv by the civil society organisation “Eco City” in partnership with Chernihiv Polytechnic National University aroused great interest among those present. The initiative involved transforming an urbanised space dominated by concrete into a green area featuring plants and natural elements. The project served as a striking example of the practical adaptation of the urban environment to climate change. Representatives of Sirocco Energy, as part of their cooperation with the Chernihiv region, shared approaches to the use of small-scale wind energy in suburban areas.

Examples of international cooperation were also presented during the meeting. For instance, work is ongoing in Odesa in collaboration with Japanese companies, supported by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, on the use of renewable energy sources.

The meeting served as an important platform for exchanging experiences between regions, discussing practical solutions in the field of climate adaptation, and developing joint approaches to implementing initiatives aimed at enhancing the resilience of Ukrainian communities.
