EDUCATIONAL-SCIENTIFIC INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING, MANUFACTURING AND CONSTRUCTION RECEIVED MODERN EQUIPMENT WITH THE SUPPORT OF UNESCO

The Educational-Scientific Institute of Engineering, Manufacturing and Construction of the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University has expanded its material and technical base with the support of UNESCO and funding from Japan.

In particular, the ESI of Engineering, Manufacturing and Construction received a modern 3D scanner and computer equipment, which will enable students and teachers to master advanced technologies for spatial scanning, creating accurate digital copies of objects and conducting comprehensive restoration studies.

This assistance is a continuation of the University’s cooperation with UNESCO and opens up opportunities for the practical application of knowledge, including that gained during the UNESCO training course on the assessment of structural damage to cultural heritage sites and conservation (17-21 February 2025), as well as for continuing the work on documenting the historic quarters and public spaces of the historic centre, which was started as part of a pilot project with UNESCO.

The latest 3D scanner is designed to monitor the condition of historical and cultural heritage sites, to teach students modern digital methods of recording, analysis and modelling, and to train specialists capable of restoring damaged architectural structures. Its use is extremely relevant in the context of Ukraine’s post-war recovery and the preservation of national cultural heritage.

Since 2023, UNESCO has been supporting Chernihiv in developing a rehabilitation plan for the historic centre of Chernihiv, with financial assistance from Japan.

University Rector Oleh Novomlynets expressed his sincere gratitude to UNESCO for its support and emphasised that this initiative will contribute to the development of engineering education, interdisciplinary approaches to learning and the expansion of international cooperation.
