A society with zero tolerance for violence: the first steps have been taken!

The public organization “Chernigov European” has completed the implementation of the project “Creating a space for social changes”, which is part of the national initiative “Supporting community projects to change social norms to prevent domestic and gender-based violence”, within the framework of cooperation between  UNFPA and the NGO “Innovative Social Solutions”.

The platform for the implementation of the project was provided by the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, trainers Tetyana Detsyuk and Maryna Zakharina, Kateryna Novik, Anna Pustovoit, Ludmila Mochalova joined us.

Implementation of the project allowed us to:

• –on the basis of the developed questionnaire, conduct an online survey of 500 young men and women in the city of Chernihiv regarding the issue of domestic and gender-based violence (link to the brochure with the survey results: https://drive.google.com/…/1QF9CicSsJCScs9jlPYn…/view…);
• –to prepare and publish fifteen informational materials on social networks (Facebook, Telegram) about existing gender stereotypes, the attitude of the community to manifestations of domestic and gender-based violence, signs of healthy and toxic relationships, forms of domestic violence (views, likes, comments, transitions link exceeded 10,000). Publications can be found on the website of the Chernihiv Polytechnic National University (archive of the Center for Gender Education) and on the Facebook page of the Chernihiv European NGO;
• – to hold eleven events, where almost 150 teenagers had the opportunity to raise their awareness of the issue of domestic and gender-based violence, to join a constructive discussion aimed at changing existing social norms and gender stereotypes;
• – to increase the level of awareness of the youth of Chernihiv with the problems of domestic and gender-based violence.

We would like to express our sincere thanks for their support in the implementation of the project activities to the management of educational institutions in Chernihiv (NEC “School-Lyceum” 16 of Chernihiv, Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, Type Lyceum 15, Cooperative Vocational College of Chernihiv, Vocational College of Economics and Technologies of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, CHONL Chernihiv Regional Scientific Lyceum).

The project team hopes that together we managed to fulfill the role of a “bifurcation point” for the youth of Chernihiv, which will activate their potential to change social norms for the formation of zero tolerance for any manifestations of domestic and gender-based violence in the community.
