“Combating violence against women and domestic violence”

On 16 January 2025, a webinar was held on “Combating violence against women and domestic violence”. The speaker of the event, Olena Klunko, Head of the Human Rights Sector of the Chernihiv District Police Department, spoke about the key mechanisms for protecting women survivors of violence and the importance of integrating a gender-sensitive approach into the activities of law enforcement agencies.

During the webinar, the participants discussed the causes and consequences of gender-based violence and received practical advice on how to prevent and respond to cases of domestic violence. Particular attention was paid to the legal protection of women and girls, creating a safe environment in communities and interagency cooperation to combat this problem.

Olena Klunko stressed the importance of raising public awareness of the available human rights instruments and encouraged community representatives to join awareness-raising initiatives and campaigns.

Such meetings are important for strengthening social cohesion and creating conditions for rebuilding communities where every woman feels safe and confident.

The event was organised within the framework of the project “Women as Agents of Social Cohesion and Recovery in Communities”, implemented by the NGO “Centre for Gender Education” with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine and funding from the French Government under the Funding Window initiative.
