All-Ukrainian action “16 days against violence”
Every year in Ukraine from November 25 to December 10, the All-Ukrainian action “16 days against violence” is held.
The purpose of the action is to draw public attention to the problems of overcoming domestic and gender-based violence, child abuse, combating human trafficking and protecting women’s rights. One of the most pressing topics of this action in Ukraine today is the demand to ratify the Istanbul Convention against Violence. The Istanbul Convention is an important international instrument that contains a wide range of commitments aimed at preventing violence, protecting victims, bringing perpetrators to justice, implementing coordinated policies and promoting international cooperation.
The key dates included in the action combine measures against violence, emphasizing that any manifestation of violence is a violation of human rights.
- – November 25 – International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The day was officially declared by the UN General Assembly in 1999.
- – December 1 – World AIDS Day.
- – December 2 – International Day against Slavery.
- – December 3 – International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
- – December 5 – International Volunteer Day.
- – December 6 – Commemoration of students shot in Montreal.
- – December 9 – International Anti-Corruption Day.
- – December 10 – International Human Rights Day.
This year, a number of events are planned within the framework of the national All-Ukrainian action “16 days against violence” by the Center for Gender Education and the psychological service of Chernihiv Polytechnic National University.
