16 Days Against Violence: “Icebreakers” – a tool for training future law enforcement officers to work with communities
On 27 November 2025, as part of the “16 DAYS AGAINST VIOLENCE” campaign on the initiative of the Centre for Gender Education at Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, in collaboration with the Centre for Inclusive Education and the Department of Law Enforcement and General Legal Disciplines, an interactive game called “Icebreakers” was held for students of the “Law Enforcement” programme.
The game was facilitated by Maryna Zakharina, facilitator of the “ICEBREAKERS” game from UNFPA, head of the Centre for Inclusive Education, and associate professor of the Department of Social Work.
The aim of the event was to help participants:
- – better understand all stages of changing social norms necessary to prevent domestic and gender-based violence in communities;
- – practise creating their own projects on this topic;
- – plan the first steps to implement the proposed initiatives in real life.
During the game, participants analysed typical situations, looked for points of influence on the community, and discussed the role of education, the police, local authorities, civil society organisations, and the media in combating violence.
The board game “Icebreakers” was developed as part of the UNFPA programme to combat and prevent gender-based violence, which is implemented with the financial support of the governments of the United Kingdom and Canada, as well as in cooperation with the NGO “Innovative Social Solutions”.
